Jutting, Martin, Jouppi and Vaisanen to lead Beaver Men’s Hockey in 2024-25

Jackson Jutting to captain BSU Men’s Hockey with Eric Martin, Austin Jouppi and Jere Vaisanen to serve as alternates

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University Men's Hockey head coach Tom Serratore announced that Jackson Jutting, Eric Martin, Austin Jouppi and Jere Vaisanen will serve as the team's captains throughout the 2024-25 season.

Jutting, a fifth-year senior from Savage, Minn., will wear the "C" and serve as the 63rd captain in the rich program history dating back to the program's first captain Ed Johnson (1947-48). Martin, Jouppi and Vaisanen will each serve as alternates and sport the "A" on their sweaters.

Beaver captains are voted upon by returning players during the offseason.

Jutting wears a letter for the second time in his collegiate career after serving as an alternate during the Beavers' 2023-24 MacNaughton Cup championship season a year ago. In two seasons with the Beavers, he has appeared in 60 games totaling 34 points off 14 goals and 20 assists including four power-play goals and four game-winning goals. He was voted the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's Co-Best Defensive Forward after leading the team in face-off wins, winning percentage and posted 22 points (10g-12a) in 27 games. Jutting is a CCHA Scholar-Athlete, CCHA All-Academic Team selection and AHCA/Krampade All-American Scholar.

Martin returns as a fifth-year senior for the Beavers and 2024-25 will be his second season serving as an alternate captain. The Calgary, Alberta native is coming off a career season posting a career-high 26 points and set career marks in both goals (8) and assists (18). After his 2022-23 season was cut short due to injury, Martin rebounded and played all 38 games. He has appeared in 128 career games for the Beavers totaling 65 career points (17g-48a) and is tied for 32nd among BSU's Division I career scoring list.

Jouppi also returns for his fifth season wearing the green and white and his first wearing a letter. The Duluth, Minn., native is coming off the best season in his collegiate career after he played in 37 of the team's 38 games and was fourth on the team with 17 assists. He finished the 2023-24 season with 19 points surpassing his previous career high by 16. He is a three-time CCHA All-Academic Team selection and an AHCA/Krampade All-American Scholar.

Vaisanen will be the lone true senior in the Beavers 2024-25 leadership group. Hailing from Espoo, Finland he is the first finnish-born student-athlete to wear a letter in BSU Men's Hockey history. He has appeared in 110 career games for the green and white missing just three games during his three-year career. Last season he tied a career-high with 17 points and set a new career-best with nine goals. He has amassed 42 points (22g-20a) in his collegiate career and is a two-time CCHA Scholar-Athlete, three-time CCHA All-Academic Team selection and three-time AHCA/Krampade All-American Scholar.

Jutting, Martin, Jouppi and Vaisanen look to lead the Beavers to their second straight MacNaughton Cup championship season in 2024-25 and begin their defense of the cup Oct. 5 with the start of the new season. Bemidji State plays its first game at Sanford Center Oct. 12 against St. Cloud State University and tickets can be purchased now.
