Jordan Petersen was named the 20th head coach of the BSU softball program on June 25, 2021. She enters her fifth season leading the Beavers in 2025-26. 

Entering the 2025 season slated 12th in the NSIC Preseason Poll, the Beavers finished 13th with a record of 21-31 overall and 8-20 in the conference. Bemidji State entered the conference-play side of the schedule sitting at a .512 win percentage, 13-11, after splitting the Kelly Laas Memorial Tournament, 2-2, Lewis Dome Invite, 3-3, and ending the Spring Games at 8-6. The Beavers found their first conference victory with an 8-4 win over Southwest Minnesota State, splitting the series. On senior day, the Beavers swept the University of Mary, 9-1 (5inn.) and 5-2, closing out the home campaign. In her freshman season, Kennedy Joachim earned the NSIC's Pitcher of the Week nod on Mar. 4. Aimee and Alexa Christenson earned the NSIC's Myles Brand Award. Molly Houts and Mariah Stevenson were each named to the All-NSIC Defensive team for their efforts in their final seasons at BSU. Academically, 16 Beavers were named NFCA and Easton Softball All-American Scholar-Athletes, 12 were named Academic All-NSIC with 10 earning All-Academic Team of Excellence and five to the CSC Academic All-District Team. 

The Beavers struggled to find footing in the 2024 season, marking a 13-38 record with 7-21 in the NSIC. They had a successful trip to the Lewis Tournament in Rosemont, Ill. in late February, taking home three of five wins. The Beavers grabbed their first conference victories with a sweep over Southwest Minnesota State on Mar. 24. Stella Dolan and Molly Houts each earned the NSIC's Myles Brand Award in their senior seasons. Houts was then named to the NSIC's All-Defensive Team as a centerfielder. Academically, five Beavers, Aimee Christenson, Alexa Christenson, Stella Dolan, Molly Houts and Mariah Stevenson were named CSC Academic All-District selections while nine student-athletes earned Academic All-NSIC. Another nine student-athletes were named D2ADA Academic Achievement Award winners. 

Entering her second season in 2023, Petersen led the team to its best record season since pre-Covid 19 at 24-27 with a 12-14 conference finish. The Beavers earned a trip to the 2023 NSIC Tournament, splitting day one with a loss in 11 innings to Minot State and a 9-4 victory over Minnesota State, the first win over the Mavericks since 2001. They then fell on day two to Concordia-St. Paul 11-3 in five innings. Elaina Christiansen, Kora Martin and Jennifer Smith all earned NSIC Myles Brand Awards in 2023. That season, Alexa Christenson, Elaina Christiansen, Molly Houts, Kyla Damerow and Stella Dolan earned CSC Academic All-District honors while 13 student-athletes were named to the NSIC All-Academic Team. 

In her first season at the helm of the Bemidji State softball program, Petersen guided the Beavers to an 11-39 overall record and a 12th place finish in the NSIC standings with am 8-22 league record. On Feb. 13, 2022. she earned her first collegiate coaching victory after guiding the Beavers to an 8-4 victory over Southwest Minnesota State. She then earned her first NSIC coaching victory after the Beavers swept MSU Moorhead in Bemidji April 3, 2022.

A Brooklyn Park, Minn. native, Petersen begins her first head coaching job after four seasons as a collegiate assistant coach within the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and seven years as a private instruction and club coach.

In two seasons as an assistant coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead, Petersen was the team’s recruiting coordinator.  Not only was she responsible for identifying and evaluating potential recruits throughout the region, she was also the first point of contact in the recruiting process, and arranged campus visits. Her duties at MSU Moorhead also included coordination of travel, scouting opponents, team equipment, academic performance, and handled fundraising activities. She also served as the team’s hitting and infield coach, creating and conducting practice regimen and providing individual hitting instruction.

During her time at MSUM she was responsible for the commitments of nine student-athletes and saw a total of 12 student-athletes earn Academic All-NSIC accolades and a NCAA Woman of the Year nominee.

From 2017 to 2019, Petersen served as the graduate assistant coach as Northern State University. In addition to recruiting, travel coordination, program budgeting, community involvement coordination and academic performance, she was the team’s primary hitting and catching coach. During her time at NSU the Wolves posted their best team batting average in over 20 years at .312, set a team record for hits and home runs in a season, and one individual set a program record for home runs in a season. In the circle, NSU broke four program single-season pitching records and trimmed nearly one run from its team ERA. The Wolves recorded back-to-back appearances in the NSIC Tournament and recorded their first conference tournament opening-round win, while four individuals were selected to the All-NSIC Team, 25 garnered academic all-conference honors and one was selected as an Academic All-American.

Petersen also has an extensive background as a youth skills instructor and club coach. From 2013 to 2016 Petersen not only conducted individual skill development through camps and clinics at the Minnesota Fastpitch Academy, she also served as the head coach of the Minnesota Force 16U team. During her time as head coach, she led the team Premier Midwest Regional Championships qualification and a Ringneck Invitational title in Sioux Falls, S.D. Eight members of her Force teams went on to earn college scholarships at the NCAA Division I or II levels. Since 2019, Petersen has remained active in skill development as a private hitting and catching instructor at The Ball Yard Training in Fargo, N.D.

Petersen is a 2016 graduate of Winona State University with a degree in health and physical education and a coaching minor. She was a member of the WSU softball team and helped lead the Warriors to a pair of NSIC Tournament Championships, two NCAA Tournament appearances and a 2013 NCAA Super Regional second place finish. She left WSU as a three-time Winona State Presidential Scholar-Athlete, a two-time Academic All-NSIC selection and as a catcher, owns the program’s career fielding percentage leader at .996. Petersen also completed her Master’s Degree in sports performance and leadership at Northern State in 2019. Petersen is a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and WeCoach.
