WINONA, Minn. - The Winona
State University women’s soccer team showed Bemidji
State why they are the second ranked team in the Northern
Sun Intercollegiate Conference this season. Today they shut
the Beavers out 2-0 for their sixth NSIC victory of the season.
Winona got out to a 1-0 lead when Minelle LaPolice scored
her second goal of the season in the fourth minute of play.
In the 42nd minute Kristin Ruhsam beat the Beaver goalkeeper
Niki Dalka for her eighth goal of the season.
WSU would take the 2-0 lead into halftime.
Coming out in the second half down 2-0, the Beavers were never
able to make anything happen. Junior goaltender Dalka did
her best to give the offense a chance to make up some ground
as she made 13 saves and held the Warriors scoreless in the
last 45 minutes. “Niki had her best game of the season,”
Commented Head Coach
Jim Stone. “She
was amazing today.”
After the game Stone seemed happy with the outcome of the
weekend’s two games. On Saturday we played very well
against Concordia-St. Paul and got a 2-1 win.
Lindsey
(Natwick) added to her team lead in points with a
goal and an assist,
Amy Vleck played very
well and we just played well as a team. Today was another
strong outing for us.”
The lost drops the Beavers to 4-10 overall and 1-8 in the
NSIC. They will be back in action Nov. 2 when they travel
to Grand Forks, N.D. to take on the 11-5 University of North
Dakota in a 1:00 p.m. match. The following day (Nov. 3) the
team will head to Fargo, N.D. for their final game of the
season. The 12:00 p.m. match pits BSU against the 8-8-1 North
Dakota State University Bison.
