The Bemidji State University soccer team fell to 2-4 overall
and 0-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference after
today’s loss to Wayne State College 1-0 on the BSU Field.
Wayne State took the lead five minutes into the match when
Mary St. Martin found the net off a pass from Becky Woefel.
Although both teams would have multiple opportunities to change
the score, it remained 1-0 and gave Wayne State its first
conference win of the year.
Bemidji State came out in the second half much more aggressively
but could not get a goal past the Wayne State goalkeeper.
“We had some good looks, we just could follow through
on our attacks,” commented head coach Jim Stone after
the loss. “It was a very physical game and we played
hard.”
The Beavers will be back in action Tuesday (Oct. 1) when the
University of Wisconsin-Superior comes to the BSU Field for
a non-conference match. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m.
start and marks the third times the teams have met in the
history of the program. BSU leads the series 2-0.
