BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State soccer team was defeated
2-0 by MSU-Moorhead this afternoon at the BSU Soccer Field.
The Dragons now own a 10-0 record against the Beavers.
Despite outshooting MSU-Moorhead 21-15, the Beavers were unable
to beat goalkeeper Dalee Wilkinson, who compiled eight saves
in the contest.
MSU-Moorhead took advantage of its opportunities as Megan DaPisa
opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when she slipped the ball
past goalkeeper Kari Torgerson to put the Dragons ahead 1-0.
Kim Hinga and Shannon Fletcher picked up assists on the goal.
The score remained 1-0 until the 57th minute when Maureen Ross
capitalized on a penalty kick to give MSU-Moorhead the 2-0 lead.
That would be all the Dragons needed to solidify the victory.
Head coach Jim Stone did not feel his team took advantage of
its scoring opportunities.
“We outplayed them but we couldn’t put the ball
in the net and to win games you have to be able to score,”
Stone said.
Goalkeeper Kari Torgerson finished with six saves in the loss.
BSU is now 3-10-1 overall and 1-4-0 in NSIC play. The Beavers
will be on the road against Jamestown and Mary on Saturday,
Oct. 18 and Sunday, Oct. 19. Both matches are set to start at
1 p.m. .
