MARSHALL, MINN. -- Tonight at the Physical Education
Gymnasium, the Bemidji State (14-17, 6-9 NSIC) volleyball
program dropped its fourth straight season match, this
time at the hands of Southwest Minnesota State (19-11,
9-6 NSIC), 3-0. Scores were 30-21, 30-26, 30-20.
The loss marks the 13th consecutive for BSU when played in Marshall, Minn. The
last Beaver series win on the road was Nov. 1, 1989.
Kill totals favored the Beavers (43-39), but hit just for a .032 mark compared
to the .174 hitting percentage by SMSU. The Mustangs ended with seven service
aces, compared to just one by Bemidji State.
In the four-match losing streak, BSU has only averaged 3.5 service aces per match;
the 27 matches before, the green and white averaged 7.1 per match.
For the Beavers, senior
Lisa Smith recorded her 11th career double-double, notching
a match-high 11 kills and 13 digs. Junior
Heather Haugen posted 10 kills and
nine digs while junior
Kristine Engman came away with a match-best 18 digs. Setters
Kristin Smith and
Kathryn McCannell came away with 18 and 14 assists, respectively.
Lisa Lunde led the hosts with 10 kills, Renee Barenz had 14 digs and Sarah Rittenhouse
notched 37 assists.
Bemidji State closes out the season with a matinee affair tomorrow at Wayne State
(Neb.). First serve begins at 4:00 p.m. in Wayne, Neb.
NOTE: In the overall series,
the Mustangs push their advantage to a 40-31 all-time record...This four-match
BSU losing streak is the longest since it lost five straight between Oct. 4-Oct.
15, 2002...The 73 BSU digs is a season-high in a three-game match...The 38 errors
is the most since the Beavers tallied 39 vs. SW Minnesota State, Nov. 9, 2002...

Engman now has 14 matches this season when she has either tied or totaled a team-best

Petersonbecame the ninth Beaver to tally 900 career digs with 10 on the night, she has
909; also, with nine kills, she became the seventh BSU athlete to record 900
career, she stands with 906.
