Paul (12-1, 2-0), which received 72 votes in the latest AVCA
Division II polls, brought down Bemidji State (7-8, 0-2)
3-0. Scores were 30-16, 30-12 and 30-17. The Golden Bears
now own a 10-match winning streak defeating the likes of
No. 10 North Dakota State earlier in the season.
After trailing by five points early in game
one, BSU was only able to get within three at 6-3 as the
Golden Bears increased their advantage from there. C-SP
held leads of 10 and 13 before closing out with a 30-16 victory.
The Beavers kept things
close in the second game, reeling off four of five points
at one stretch to take a 8-7 advantage. Two services aces
by junior Kelly Piper capped the streak. From there, C-SP
countered with five consecutive and 12 of the next 13 tallies.
The hosts had no trouble in winning 30-12.
The Bears closed out the contest
much the same way they did in the first two games, good
hitting and serving. BSU narrowed a 11-2 gap with two side-outs
and a kill by senior Nicole McDougall to come within 11-5.
However, Concordia-St. Paul used a raucous crowd winning
its third straight over the Beavers.
Leading the Beavers,
junior Heather Haugen had six kills and junior Kristine
Engman recorded seven digs. As a team, Bemidji State hit
-.047 (20-25-106).
On
the other side, Concordia-St. Paul finished with a .347
mark (47-14-95), hitting .400 (18-4-35) in the first game.
Jill Kavlik came away with a game-high 11 kills, Mandy Horazdovsky
posted 13 digs and setter Cailin Terhaar totaled 41 assists.
Bemidji State will welcome St. Scholastica in
its next match, Tuesday at the BSU Gymnasium. Start-time
is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
