BSU Falls 3-0 to Wayne State

WAYNE, Neb. - The Bemidji State University volleyball team dropped its second match in as many days, Saturday, as Wayne State College defeated the Beavers 3-0 (30-24, 30-26, 30-25). The loss drops BSU to 6-10 overall and 2-4 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.

The Beavers continued to struggle offensively Saturday failing to have a single athlete record a double-digit kill total. Freshman Brittney Burns (Henderson, Minn.) led the team with eight kills. BSU also hit just .130 in the match, marking the seventh time in the last ten matches that the team has posted less than a .200 hitting percentage. Senior Kelly Piper (Eagan, Minn.) paced the team Saturday hitting .500 (3k-oe-6att).

BSU did outplay the Wildcats in once statistical category in the match, posting five service aces and just two service errors. Serving has been a strength for the Beavers in recent matches as they have collected 38 aces in the last five matches. Senior Heather Haugen (Lanesboro, Minn.) led the Beavers versus WSC collecting a pair of aces while Kristin Smith, Lindsey Bromenshenkel and Alicia Beaman each posted an ace in the match.

Wayne State was led in the match by Jacey Kuck Schwartz who collected 13 kills.

The Beavers will wrap up its current six-match road swing this week with three matches. Tuesday BSU will travel to Minnesota-Crookston for a 7:00 p.m. NSIC match-up. Wednesday the team will be at St. Cloud State at 7:00 p.m. and will travel to South Dakota Saturday to take on the University of South Dakota at 3:00 p.m.
