BEMIDJI, Minn. - St. Cloud State (4-8-1, 3-7-1 WCHA) received a goal from Tina Ciraulo with just over one minute left in regulation to secure a 3-2 victory over the Bemidji State women’s hockey team (2-13-0, 1-12-0 WCHA) Friday night at the John S. Glas Fieldhouse. Freshman Tara Hiscock (Bemidji, Minn.) and sophomore Kelly Hart (Ajax, Ontario) each registered their fifth goals of the year in a losing effort.

The Huskies outshot the Beavers 11-4 in the opening period and the visitors scored the lone goal of the frame at the 18:13 mark when Kristy Oonincx notched her sixth marker of the season to put her team ahead 1-0.

Bemidji State turned up the offensive pressure in the second stanza, compiling a 12-7 shot advantage over St. Cloud State. BSU recorded its first score of the night on the power-play at 2:15 of the period, as Tara Hiscock lit the lamp with a rebound goal right in front of the SCSU net. Hiscock’s tally was her second power-play score of the year, which moved her into a tie for first on the team in power-play goals and overall goals. Senior Jenny Schnickel (Coon Rapids, Minn.) extended her point-scoring streak to three games with a helper on the goal.

St. Cloud State responded with a power-play goal of its own from Kelly Stewart at 5:46 of the second frame.

In a tightly contested third period the Beavers earned a slight 6-5 lead in shots and one of those shots found the back of the net at the 4:25 mark. Kelly Hart took a pass from Helena Tageson (Malmö, Sweden) that slipped past two St. Cloud State defenders and skated in all alone on a breakaway before faking to her left and then backhanding a shot past goaltender Lauri St. Jacques’s glove side. Hart’s lamplighter was her fifth of the season and team-leading 11 point of the 2004-05 campaign. The assist by Tageson was the sixth of her sophomore year.

The game was knotted at 2-2 until Tina Ciraulo managed to break through the BSU defensive corps and beat junior Jill Luebke (Neenah, Wis.) to give her squad the game-winning goal.

Head coach Bruce Olson pulled Leubke for the final 19 seconds of the game, but SCSU shut down any final BSU comeback attempts to preserve its fourth win of the season.

St. Cloud State generated 23 shots to Bemidji State’s 22, but the Beavers did outshoot the Huskies 18-12 in the final two periods.

Jill Luebke and Lauri St. Jacques each collected 20 saves between the pipes on the evening.

Both teams recorded one goal on four power-play opportunities.

BSU will try to put an end to a five-game losing streak Saturday afternoon in the series finale with SCSU at the John S. Glas Fieldhouse. The puck will drop at 2:05 p.m.
