St. Cloud State Tops Bemidji State 3-0

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - St. Cloud State dealt the Bemidji State women’s soccer team its second defeat of the season Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 shutout win at Husky Stadium. The Beavers finished the two-day St. Cloud State tournament 0-2-0 after dropping a 2-1 match to Montana State-Billings on Friday.

The Huskies recorded their first goal of the contest in the 21st minute when Staci Janeshek lit up the scoreboard to give SCSU a 1-0 lead.

St. Cloud State earned its second score of the match in the 40th minute off an own-goal shot by a BSU player. The Huskies carried a 2-0 advantage into halftime after outshooting the Beavers by a 16-4 margin.

The home team secured its victory with another tally in the 68th minute as Cassi Johnson beat Beaver goalkeeper Kari Torgerson to push the score to 3-0.

Torgerson finished the day with 15 saves, compared to Stephanie Brendel of St. Cloud State who stopped five shots.

For the game, St. Cloud State outshot Bemidji State 33-9.

The loss drops BSU’s record to 0-2-0 on the season, while SCSU moves to 1-0-0. The Beavers will seek their first win of the year with a pair of matches in Duluth, Minn. on Thursday, Sept. 2 and Friday, Sept. 3. Bemidji State takes on Minnesota-Duluth at 2 p.m. on Thursday and Finlandia at noon on Friday.
