ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Freshman goaltender Emily Brookshaw (Webster, Wis.) made 24 saves and recorded her first career shutout to help lead the Bemidji State women’s hockey team (6-16-2, 2-15-1 WCHA) to a 2-0 win over St. Cloud State (6-14-2, 2-14-2 WCHA) Saturday afternoon at the National Hockey Center. Rookie Jessica Pullar (Elk River, Minn.) and sophomore Kate Robinson (Shanty Bay, Ontario) each lit the lamp for the Beavers, who ended a three-game winless streak with the victory.
BSU’s offensive prowess in the first period was started with a lamplighter from Pullar with helpers from sophomore Nina Ziegenhals (Sankt Augustin, Germany) and Robinson. The goal was Pullar’s third of the year. Another first period goal was hammered into the net, this time on the power play, by Robinson with an assist from sophomore Kelly Hart (Ajax, Ontario).
Robinson’s ninth tally of the year proved to be the last scoring by either team. The latter two periods were a defensive battle highlighted by a brilliant performance in net by Brookshaw who halted any scoring by the Huskies.
BSU outshot St. Cloud 37-24 as Brookshaw picked up her third win of the year. Husky netminder Lauri St. Jacques turned aside 35 shots in the loss.
The Beavers will be off next weekend and will be back in action Saturday, January 29 and Sunday, January 30 at Minnesota Duluth.
Notes: The shutout was BSU’s first since Nov. 17, 2002, when Anik Cote stopped 20 shots in a 4-0 win at North Dakota... This was the Beavers first win versus St. Cloud State since Dec. 13, 2003, when BSU beat SCSU 5-2 in Bemidji... Kate Robinson’s two point effort (1g, 1a) was her third multi-point game of year and team-leading ninth goal of the year... Kelly Hart is currently on a two-game scoring streak and had a four-point weekend (1g, 3a)... BSU is now 12-13-4 all-time vs. St. Cloud State.
