BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University soccer team played in their third consecutive double overtime match Saturday at home versus Northern State. The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matchup ended in a 1-1, with Traci Ringgenberg (Jr.; Baldwin, N.D.) scoring the only goal for the Beavers.
The BSU defense stifled the Wolves charge for much of the game maintaining a 1-0 lead until the 68-minute mark. Heather Bartlett got free for NSU and shot the ball past the outstretched arms of Bemidji State goalkeeper Kari Torgerson (Jr.; New Hope, Minn.) to tie the score, 1-1.
Ringgenberg’s goal to for BSU came in the 53rd minute. The Beavers’ midfielder Jessica Ploeger (So.; Ramsey, Minn.) dug the ball out of the goal box and touched a pass to Ringgenberg who let a high shot fly from 25 yards out. Northern State goalkeeper was unable to deflect the shot, resulting in the first goal of the season for Ringgenberg. The assist was Ploeger’s first of the season.
A defensive battle ensued with neither team giving any ground on the defensive end of the field. Torgerson turned in a great performance in net for the Beavers denying 10, while giving up just the one goal in 110 minutes of action.
The double overtime game was the sixth of the season for the Beavers, who have a record of 1-0-5 in those six contests.
BSU’s record moved to 8-3-5 on the season, and 6-1-3 in the NSIC.
Bemidji State will be back in action Sunday, at 1:00 pm against Minnesota State-Moorhead. BSU shutout MSU-Moorhead earlier this season 2-0 in Moorhead, Minn. The victory was the first all time for the BSU against the Dragons.
