score] The Bemidji State University volleyball team dropped
a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match to No. 23
Wayne State College Saturday afternoon at Rice Auditorium
in Wayne, Neb. The nationally-ranked Wildcats doubled the
Beavers' kill total while hitting for an efficient .368 to
put the match away via the sweep (30-12, 30-16, 30-19).
Junior college transfer Alaina Adams (Jr.,
OH, Halstad, Minn.) jumped into the action earning eight kills
to pace a BSU team that collected just 24 kills on the day.
Alicia Beaman (Jr., S, St. Paul Park, Minn.)
pulled double duty moving from her usual position of setter
after recording a team-high 17 assists, to the outside where
she collected four kills on 20 attempts.
Defensively, Allison Hyatt (Jr., DS/L MineCentre,
Ont.) posted a match-best 11 digs while five BSU players recorded
one block each to post a team total of three.
Emily Schroeder paced a trio of Wildcats with double-figure
kill totals with 12. The middle also hit at a .429 clip (12-3-21),
led all players with four blocks and equaled the league's
dig leader, Laura Dolezal, for a team-high 10 digs.
The Beavers were out hit in the match .368 (49-10-106) to
-.035 (24-28-114), out dug 56 to 38 and out blocked eight
to three as WSC displayed just why they have been ranked by
the American Volleyball Coaches' Association as one of the
top-25 team in the country for a majority of the season.
The win helped Wayne State to improve to 22-5 overall and
12-2 within NSIC play. It also aided in strengthening the
Wildcats' grip on the all-time series. WSC has now defeated
BSU in 15 of the 17 meetings between the teams including a
current winning streak of six over the Beavers.
Bemidji State (7-20; 3-11 NSIC) returns to Bemidji, Minn.
for three matches to cap the home portion of its 2006 schedule.
The Beavers welcome Northern State University to the BSU Gymnasium
Friday Oct. 20 at 7:00 p.m. to kick off the homestand and
will host NSIC newcomer University of Mary (M.D.) Saturday
at 3:00 p.m. The Beavers finish with a 7:00 p.m., Oct. 24
affair versus the University of Minnesota, Crookston.
