its final 2006 NSIC Challenge match to No. 7 Concordia University-St.
Paul, 3-0 (30-19, 30-14, 30-26), at Alex Nemzek Gymnasium
in Moorhead, Minn. BSU finished the three-match challenge
with a record of 1-2.
The Beavers were overmatch versus the nationally-ranked Golden
Bears managing to muster only half the number of kills that
CSP put up while hitting .250 points below its high velocity
offense.
Bemidji State posted 27 kills in the match and were led by
Jennifer Janckila (So., MB, Appleton, Wis.)
and Aliana Adams (Jr., OH, Halstad, Minn.)
who turned in matching seven-kill nights. Janckila's .312
hitting percentage (7-2-16) paced a team that hit .074 (27-20-94)
in the loss.
The Beavers' passing game was led by the trio of Allison
Hyatt (Jr., DS/L, MineCentre, Ont.), Alicia
Beaman (Jr., S, St. Paul Park, Minn.) and Adams who
each netted six digs as BSU posted the second-lowest defensive
save total of the season with 33--only a 32-dig effort versus
Dallas Baptist University Aug. 25 stands as a lower team passing
total this fall.
Janckila, Beaman and Anna Leafblad (Fr.,
MB, Coon Rapids, Minn.) each collected a block on the night.
The Golden Bears were led by Kelsey Kyro, Jessica Lucia and
Maria Stienhagen who each recorded 15 kills and hit .480-or-better.
Stienhagen edged all players with a nearly perfect .882 hitting
percentage. She collected 15 kills on 17 attempts without
committing a single error. She also led the Golden Bears at
the net posting three blocks.
Maggie McNamara, reigning NSIC Setter of the Week, assisted
on 53 of CSP's 57 kills while posting a match-high nine digs.
CSP improves to 22-2 on the year and remains perfect in NSIC
play collecting its 12th league win. The Golden Bears also
increased their lead over BSU in the all-time series to 13-9-1
and have won the last 11 meetings between the teams.
Bemidji State (7-17; 3-9 NSIC) now takes a break from league
play and will travel to St. Cloud, Minn. to battle St. Cloud
State University Tuesday in a 7 p.m. tilt at Hallenbeck Hall.
