BSU Suffers Second Straight Shutout in a 1-0 Loss

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Bemidji State University soccer team’s offense was held in check for the second straight game on Sunday against Northern Michigan. The Wildcats defense was too much for the Beavers in a 1-0 loss on the campus of NMU.

BSU used stingy defense and great goaltending of its own for the first 75 minutes, but NMU’s Ashley Leblanc found the back of the net in the 76th minute for the only goal of the game.

The Beavers were outshot 16-6 in the game.

In net for BSU, Kari Torgerson (Sr., New Hope, Minn.) was solid, and made only one mistake. Torgerson’s record dropped to 2-2 on the season.

The overall record for the Beavers fell to 3-3, which included six straight road games to begin the season.

Bemidji State hadn’t lost back-to-back regular season games since a five-game skid from Sept. 29 to Oct. 16 in 2004.

The Beavers will return to Bemidji, Minn., for their home-opener on Sept. 16-17. On Saturday, they will play their first Northern Sun Intercollegiate opponent of the season, Southwest Minnesota State, at 1 p.m. Then on Sunday, BSU will host Wayne State (Neb.) at 1 p.m.
