handed its 11 loss of the season Saturday afternoon despite
a career all-around match by freshman outside hitter
Brie
Groskreutz (Reedsburg, Wis.). Northern State University
battled back from a 1-0 deficit to take the final three games
of the match to move to 9-7 overall and 4-3 in Northern Sun
Intercollegiate Conference play with the 3-1 (22-30, 30-25,
30-13, 30-25). The Beavers fall to 6-11 on the season and
2-5 within the league.
Groskreutz led BSU on the attack posting 14 kills on 34 attempts
while committing just one error for a team-best and career-high
hitting percentage of .386. She added 26 defensive saves marking
her second consecutive match with at least 25 digs to account
for her four double-double of 2006.
Alaina Adams (Jr., OH, Halstad, Minn.) and
Brittney Burns (Jr., OH, LeSueur, Minn.)
added double-figure kill totals of 13 and 11 respectively.
Burns also contributed 18 digs and four blocks in the loss.
Kelsey Aden and Odemaris Diaz paced the Wolves with 13 kills
apiece while setter Kelly Heier posted a double-double with
38 assists and a team-best 21 digs.
The Beavers offensive attack sputtered for the second straight
road contest hitting just .031 as a team (49-43-192). Although
the Wolves were not much better on the attack, they posted
54 kills on 182 attempts while committing 24 kills for a team
hitting percentage of .159.
The BSU loss shrinks the Beavers' lead in the all-time series
to 31-20 while NSU has defeated BSU in each of the last three
contests and in nine of the last 14 dating back to the 1999
season.
The Beavers (6-11; 2-5 NSIC) will attempt to put an end to
their current six-match losing skid Sept. 26 when they travel
west to Crookston, Minn. to battle University of Minnesota,
