score] The Bemidji State University volleyball team was
defeated Saturday evening, 3-0 (30-28, 30-15, 30-17), by the
University of North Dakota in non-conference competition at
the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center in Grand Forks, N.D. The
loss was the ninth straight for BSU dipping its season record
to 6-14 overall.
The sputtering Bemidji State offense produced its fifth consecutive
match with a hitting percentage of less that .100 at .076
(31-21-131). The more efficient Fighting Sioux offense hit
.288 (62-20-146) while doubling the Beavers' kill total of
31.
Junior outside hitter Brittney Burns (LeSueur,
Minn.) and sophomore middle hitter Jennifer Janckila
(Appleton, Wis.) posted BSU's top kill totals with nine apiece
while Janckila's .133 (9-5-30) paced the Beaver attack.
Defensively Janckila, Marissa Hinshaw (Fr.,
Anchorage, Alaska) and Allison Kunde (Fr.,
Burnsville, Minn.) each collected a BSU-high three blocks
while Kunde's 12 digs led all Beavers.
Alicia Beaman (Jr., S, St. Paul Park, Minn.)
posted 23 assist and 10 digs for her team-best 10th double-double
of 2006.
UND's Tara Holmen led the Sioux with a match-high 18 kills
and hitting a staggering .483 (18-4-29). Heidi Evans added
17 kills while leading all players with 15 kills for UND's
only double-double of the night.
North Dakota now carries a 31-27 lead in the all-time series,
has defeated BSU in five straight meetings and been victorious
over BSU in 10 of 11 since 1999.
Bemidji State (6-14; 2-7 NSIC) will attempt to put an end
to its current nine-match losing skid Tuesday when it welcomes
nationally-ranked University of Minnesota Duluth to the BSU
Gymnasium. The non-conference affair is set for a 7 p.m. start.
