score] The Concordia University-St. Paul volleyball team
came into the first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Concference
volleyball challenge as the No. 3-ranked team in the most
recent national poll and Friday afternoon backed that ranking
up with a 3-0 (30-16, 30-17, 30-20) victory over Bemidji State
University at the RA Facility in Marshall, Minn. The Golden
Bears out played BSU in virtually every statistical category
using a tidy .310 hitting percentage to push toward the win.
Four CSP players collected 10 or more kills as Kelsy Kyro
paced the team with 15. The CSP attackers totaled 63 kills
on 126 attempts while the Beavers managed just 24 kills on
the stingy Golden Bear defense.
Reighning NSIC Setter of the Week, Maggie McNamara put up
56 asists for CSP.
Brittney Burns (Jr., OH, LeSueur, Minn.)
led the Beaver attack blasting nine kills. Defensively, Burns
posted four blocks as the BSU net players turned a total of
five CSP attempts back outblocking the Golden Bears 5-1 in
the match.
Senior setter Alicia Beaman (St. Paul Park,
Minn.) and junior Allison Hyatt (L/DS, MineCetre,
Ont.) each recorded eight defensive saves to lead the BSU
back row.
The Golden Bears nearly doubled BSU dig total, holdiong BSU
to a .087 hitting percentage, as Megan Graham posted a match-high
15.
Bemidji State falls to 4-5 on the year and 0-1 in NSIC play.
The Beavers will continue play at the NSIC Challenge facing
Winona State University tonight at 6 p.m. and will conclude
the event with a 12 p.m. match tomorrow afternoon.
