No. 4 Concordia-St. Paul sweeps BSU, 3-0

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Gangelhoff Center) - The Bemidji State University volleyball team dropped its second consecutive Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) match to No. 4 Concordia-St. Paul at the Gangelhoff Center. The Golden Bears earned the sweep by scores of 30-17, 30-17, 30-23.

The Golden Bears extended their win streak over the Beavers to 14-matches as they held BSU to its second lowest hitting percentage of the season (.071). The Beavers had just 26 kills while making 16 hitting errors on 140 attempts. Concordia-St. Paul hit at a clip of .243 while doubling up the Beavers in the kills category (59k-22e-152at).

Bemidji State was led by Heather Sampson (Fr., OH, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Brittney Burns (Sr., OH, LeSueur, Minn.) as they each spiked down six kills. In both matches this season Sampson and Burns led the Beavers in kills. Nicole Olson (Fr., OH, Baudette, Minn.) led the Beavers in hitting percentage for the eleventh time this season as she hit .364 (5k-1e-11at) for the match.  

Defensively, Burns and Chelsea Geisler (Jr., LB, Grand Rapids, Minn.) led the Beavers as they each notched 11 digs in the match. Brittney Burns and Nicole Olson each caused havoc at the net as they each recorded three blocks apiece.  The Beavers matched the Golden Bears in blocks as each team recorded nine blocks in the match.

Alicia Beaman (Sr., S, St. Paul Park, Minn.) led the Beaver offensive charge for the eleventh time this season as she posted 15 set assists.  Beaman also picked up 10 digs in the match tying Brie Groskreutz (So., OH, Reedsburg, Wis.) for the team lead with seven double-doubles this season. It is Beaman¹s 37th double-double of her career.  Allison Kunde (So., S, Burnsville, Minn.) chipped in with 10 assists on the evening for the Beavers.  

The Golden Bears had a very balanced offensive attack as four players recorded double-digit kills in the match.  Maria Steinhagen led the way for CSP with 14 kills, Whitney Meierotto added 13 kills, Emily Palkert had 12 and Sadie Kessler spiked down 11 kills to lead the Golden Bears. Steinhagen hitting an astonishing .370 for the match (14k-4e-27at). Maggie McNamara and Whitney Meierotto each recorded double-doubles as Meierotto had 11 digs to go with her 13 kills while McNamara had 51 assists and 20 digs on the night.

With the loss the Beavers fall to 9-16-1 all-time versus CSP and 0-3 versus ranked opponents this season. With the win the Golden Bears sweep the season series with the Beavers this season as CSP swept Bemidji State on Sept. 14 from the BSU Gymnasium.  Bemidji State is now 3-8 all-time versus the Golden Bears at the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, Minn.

Bemidji State (8-11; 4-9 NSIC) will look to get back on the winning track on Saturday, Oct. 20, when the Beavers will host the Winona State University Warriors from the BSU Gymnasium. The Beavers will wrap up the week of play on Sunday, Oct. 21, when the Upper Iowa University Peacocks visit the BSU Gymnasium.  Both matches are set to start at 3:00 p.m.
