COLUMBUS, Ohio -
Lexy Parenteau
(Franconia, Minn.) scored her first collegiate goal Friday night, but
it wasn’t enough as No. 10-ranked Ohio State defeated the Bemidji
State University women’s hockey team 6-2 at OSU Ice Rink in
Columbus, Ohio.
The redshirt freshman notched the first goal of the game 8:49 into the opening period. Monica Rawlings (Maplewood, Minn.) and Annie Bauerfeld
(Woodbury, Minn.) assisted on the goal. This was the first game of the
season that the Beavers (0-6-1, 0-6-1 WCHA) were the first team to
score.
The Buckeyes (4-3-2, 3-2-2 WCHA)
scored six goals from four different players before Bemidji State was
able to score again. Jenna Kilpatrick, Hayley Klassen (2), Erin Keys
(2) and Mallory Peckels all scored goals for Ohio State. Nine different
Buckeyes assisted on the six goals.
Eva
Schwaerzler (Dornbirn, Austria) picked up her second goal of the season
with less than three minutes remaining in the game. Her goal was the
first power-play goal of the year for BSU, and it was assisted by Erin Cody (Roseville, Minn.) and Ashley Leopold (Afton, Minn.).
The Beavers have five goals on the year, and Schwaerzler has two of them.
Emily Brookshaw (Webster, Wisc.) took the loss after playing the first two periods. She saved 24 shots and allowed four goals. Jennifer Bauer
(St. Catharines, Ontario) played the third period, saving 15 shots
while allowing her first two collegiate goals. Liana Bonanno played
44:14, and recorded the win after allowing one goal and saving 12
shots. Jill Mauch went the rest of the way in net for the Buckeyes and
allowed one goal while saving nine shots.
Bemidji
State is off to its second-worst start in school history. The last time
the Beavers went seven games without recording a victory was the first
year of the program, 1998-99, when they started the season 0-9-0.
The series finale between the Beavers and Buckeyes will take place at 7:07 p.m. Saturday at OSU Ice Rink.
