BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University
soccer team opened its 2007 campaign with a 4-0 loss at the hands of
Northern Michigan University at the BSU Soccer Field in the first round
of the Holiday Inn Express Fall Tournament.
Northern
Michigan (1-0-0) jumped out to an early lead when Emily Lockery scored
an unassisted goal in the 19th minute of the first half. Renee LeBlanc
and Amanda Gadomski both added goals later in the half, and Bemidji
State trailed 3-0 at the break.
The Beavers
played more aggressively in the second half, and only allowed one goal
the rest of the game, which was scored by Lockery in the 51st minute.
Bemidji State goalkeeper Jessica Meath (Jr., Bethel, Minn.) played 90 minutes in net and recorded five saves.
The
NMU goalkeeper, Kara Music, played 73:46 and saved eight shots. Dana
Bush relieved Music, played the final 16:14 and recorded two saves of
her own.
BSU got its best look at a goal opportunity in the 64th minute when Music had a ball deflected off her and Kelly Hyvare (Jr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) had a seemingly open net, only to miss the shot wide left.
Jamie Ford (So., Edina, Minn.), Danielle Egeberg (So., New Hope, Minn.) and Kara Smyth (Fr., Cary, Ill.) each had two shots on goal in the game for the Beavers.
BSU
(0-1-0) will return to action at 3 p.m. on Aug. 26 at the BSU Soccer
Field when the Beavers play Augustana in the final game of the Holiday
Inn Express Tournament
