Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bemidji State University volleyball team fell 3-0
(25-12, 25-11, 25-9) to No. 1 Concordia University, St. Paul Friday
evening at Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, Minn. The Beavers fall to 4-17
(1-12) this season. Concordia-St. Paul improves to 22-0 (12-0 NSIC) as
they continue their unblemished season in pursuit of a fifth-straight
NCAA Division II National Championship.
Bethany Thompson (Jr.,
OH, Owatonna, Minn.) led the Beavers on the night with seven kills. The
Beavers struggled offensively hitting -.036 with 16 kills and 19 errors
on 84 total attempts.
Rachel Craig (Fr., MB, Wadena, Minn.) added five
kills and hit .143 for the match.
Courtney Volkmann (Fr., S, Wadena,
Minn.) had nine assists on the night for BSU.
Defensively, libero
Elissa Christensen (Fr., Montevideo, Minn.) tallied nine digs.
Jessi-Beth McCannell (Sr., S, Brandon, Manitoba) added six digs, as did
Thompson.
Concordia-St. Paul hit .313 for the match with 38
kills and 12 errors on 83 total attempts. Kayla Koenecke led the Golden
Bears with nine kills and a stellar .600 hitting percentage.
NSIC
Preseason Player of the Year selection Megan Carlson added eight kills
and led the team with 14 digs. Ashley Murtha also tallied eight kills
and hit .538 for the match.
2010 AVCA Freshman of the Year Amanda
Konetchy guided the Concordia-St. Paul hitters with 34 assists.
Taylor
Fieldsted added 11 digs as the Golden Bears held the BSU offense at
bay. Katie Habeck had two solo blocks and two block assists.
BSU
falls to 24-9-1 all-time versus Concordia-St. Paul. The Beavers have
lost the last 22 matches to the Golden Bears including two this season.
The
Beavers will look to end a 10-match losing streak Saturday as they head
to St. Cloud State University. The Huskies entered Friday night with a
5-15 (1-11 NSIC) mark. St. Cloud State is on a losing streak as well as
they have lost their last 12 matches after falling to University of
Minnesota Duluth Friday. Saturday’s game will commence at 4 p.m. in St.
Cloud, Minn.
