Box Score

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Sanford Center) -- The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team lost to the University of Minnesota Friday evening at the Sanford Center by a score of 4-0-0. The Beavers drop to 3-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play, while the Gophers improve to 7-0-0 overall and 5-0-0 in WCHA play.

Bemidji State came out playing well in the first period as it turned away a flurry of Gopher shots to keep the score tied at zero going into the second period. The Beavers’ blocked 13 shots of 31 total shots in the frame. Another 13 of those shots reached the goaltender Brittni Mowat (Fr, Glenboro, Manitoba) and she turned away all of them.

In the second period, the Golden Gophers broke out, netting three goals including one of the power-play variety. The first goal came off the stick of Meghan Lorence for her second goal of the season at the 3:06 mark in the period. The second net-finder was by Rachel Ramsey and the power-play goal was by Kate Schipper. The Gophers continued their advantage of shots on goal through the second period. Through two periods, the Gophers outshot Bemidji State 33-9.

The Beavers cut the shots on goal differential to just three in the third period (13-10). Unfortunately, none of the 10 shots found the net. One did find the net for the Gophers as Minnesota’s fourth goal was the second of the night by Lorrence.

Offensively, the Beavers were led by Emily McKnight (F, Sr., Carman, Manitoba) and Stephanie Anderson (F, R-So., North St. Paul, Minn.) as both players had three shots on goal.

Mowat stopped a career-high 42 shots, but allowed all four of Minnesota’s goals and was tagged with the loss. She falls to 3-3-1 this season.

Bemidji State and Minnesota will conclude its conference series with a 4:07 p.m. tilt tomorrow at Sanford Center.
