Box Score

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Ralph Englestad Arena) – The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team fell 2-1 to No. 3 University of North Dakota at Ralph Engelstad Arena. The victory capped a weekend in which North Dakota took five of the possible six points from Bemidji State.

After more than six minutes of uneventful play to open the game, the Beavers got on the board at the 6:48 with a goal by Rachael Kelly (F, Jr., Rosemount, Minn.). It was Kelly’s sixth goal of the season and second of the series.

BSU went into the first intermission with the 1-0 advantage. It was just the third time this season that BSU has held the lead after one period of play this season.

North Dakota would come back early in the second stanza to tie the score 1-1 at the 3:11 mark in the period. The BSU defense was tested early and often in the second frame. UND had 12 shots on goal in the second period alone, and BSU also blocked nine shots. Due to these blocked shots and the play of Brittni Mowat (G, Fr., Glenboro, Manitoba), the Beavers kept the score at 1-1 going into the second intermission.

North Dakota grabbed its first lead of the night at the 7:43 mark in the third period. Tanja Eisenschmid snuck one past Mowat who was being screened by multiple players.

The score remained 2-1 for the remainder of the period. The Beavers pulled Mowat at the end for an extra attacker, but UND was able to stop a flurry of shots by BSU to hold on for the victory

Mowat made 26 saves, but was tagged with the loss moving her record to 9-11-3.

Bemidji State (9-14-3, 6-13-2 WCHA) will return home next weekend to Sanford Center as it takes on University of Minnesota Duluth. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. Friday and 4:07 p.m. Saturday.
