Bemidji State drops first game of 2014-15, 5-1 to Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio (OSU Ice Rink) — The Ohio State University’s Julia McKinnon netted a hat-trick to lead OSU over the Bemidji State University women’s ice hockey team Friday evening, 5-1. The loss was not only snapped BSU’s four-game winning streak but it is also the Beavers’ first loss of the season.

Bemidji State struck first at the 10:53 mark in the first period with a goal from Summer Thibodeau to give BSU the early advantage. OSU answered two minutes and 54 seconds later with a goal by Kendall Curtis to knot the score at 1-1, which would be the score heading into the first intermission.

It was all Buckeyes in the second and third periods. Julia McKinnon got the OSU scoring started with a goal at 9:27 in the second and Curtis tallied her second of the night at 11:12, which extended the Buckeyes lead to 3-1. McKinnon put the game on ice for the Buckeyes in the third period as she netted her second and third goals of the evening at 8:59 and 14:59, respectively.

Both teams have a quick turnaround to prepare for the series finale. The puck drops at 11:07 p.m. from Columbus, Ohio.
