Minot State wins the battle of the Beavers, 3-1

MINOT, N.D. (MSU Dome) — The Bemidji State University volleyball team fell in four sets Friday evening to Minot State University by scores of 25-18, 25-23, 16-25, 25-16 at the MSU Dome. The loss drops BSU to 4-18 overall and 2-12 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play, while Minot State improves to 7-16 overall and 4-10 conference play.

Rachel Craig led Bemidji State with 16 kills and eight blocks, while Jessica Yost also provided some offensive punch with 14 kills.

Notes on Bemidji State:

  • Craig tied a career-high with eight blocks.
  • Three BSU players registered double-digits in digs: Kayla DeJong (15), Courtney Fox (13), Caitlin Volkmann (10)
  • Minot State has won the last three matches against its fellow Beavers.
  • Courtney Volkmann notched 37 assists in the match. In doing so, Volkmann surpassed former Beaver Amy Soehnen for sixth place on BSU’s all-time assist list.

Notes on Minot State:

  • Minot State outhit Bemidji State three of the four sets in the match. The only set BSU outhit MISU was the third (.379-.030).
  • Emily Byrne set up 43 of MISU’s 49 kills in the match.
  • Three Minot State hitters registered double-digit kill totals. Jen dixon led the way with 14 kills.
  • With the win, Minot State ties a season-high with a two-match winning streak.

Next up: Bemidji State returns to action Saturday evening with a match against University of Mary. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. from Bismarck, N.D.
