Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. (Sanford Center) — Bemidji State University goaltender Brittni Mowat made 27 saves and allowed just one goal in 58:01 of play Saturday, but it was not enough as the No. 8 University of Minnesota Duluth earned a 2-0 victory to salvage a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series split at Sanford Center.
Minnesota Duluth tallied the first goal of the contest at 2:23 in the first period by Zoe Hickel.
After being outshot 14-7 in the first period, the Beavers rebounded to outshoot UMD 19-4 in the second. The differential would have been more if the Bulldogs hadn’t blocked nine additional shots. Despite the pressure put forth by the Beavers, UMD goaltender Kayla Black stood strong and Minnesota Duluth maintained the 1-0 lead going into the third period.
Down a goal with just over two minutes to play, BSU head coach Jim Scanlan pulled Mowat to gain an extra attacker. Unfortunately, UMD netted an empty-net goal at 19:02 to seal a 2-0 victory.
