BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State women's basketball team took on the Concordia University, St. Paul Golden Bears at Sanford Center Saturday evening but fell short with a final score of 103-84.
Bemidji State, now 5-12, 2-10 NSIC will hit the road for a four game stretch as they head to Northern State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead, Jan. 23-24. The Golden Bears improve their record to 9-8 overall and 5-6 in league play.
Bemidji State Highlights
- The Beavers upped their shooting as they shot 43.9 percent from the field, including 9-of-21 from beyond the arc. BSU also went 17-of-21 from the charity stripe for an 81 percent rating.
- BSU only committed seven turnovers compared to the Golden Bears 10.
- Six players recorded double-digits for the Beavers, while Sierra Senske led the offense with 14 points.
- Afton Kuehndorf (13), Sarah Durand (12), Allison Cordes (11), Aimee Pelzer (11) and Tatum Sheley (10) were the other double figure scorers.
- Senske and Sheley each led the team with six rebounds, while Cordes led in assists with five.
Concordia-St. Paul Highlights
- The freshmen duo of Kayla Miller and Lauren Shifflett combined for 28 points in the first half as the Golden Bears put in a season-best 57 points before the break.
- Miller finished with a career-best 18 points on 7-10 shooting and 3-5 from three in her second start as she also added seven boards and Shifflett put in 19 points on 6-11 and 4-9 from beyond the arc along with three boards in the win.
- Anika Whiting led the way in the game for Concordia with 27 points on 10-16 from the floor to go with six boards. She has averaged 22.4 points over her last four games.
- Amanda Barton and Ameshia Kearney also scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Kearney also played the role of distributor with a career-best 12 assists to collect her first double-double of the season.
- Concordia aided their effort offensively by grabbing 40 rebounds compared to 28 for Bemidji State and finishing with a 30-24 advantage in the paint.
