Beavers drop a close battle to U-Mary, 86-80

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State men's basketball hosted University of Mary Saturday evening at BSU Gymnasium to end its first series at home in 2015. The Beavers fell short resulting in an 86-80 loss. 

Bemidji State improves to 7-5 overall and 3-5 in league play with the victory, while U-Mary improves to 3-9 and 1-7 in conference action. The Beavers will return to action Jan. 9-10 as they go on the road to University of Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State University, respectively. 

Bemidji State Highlights

  • Senior Brock Lutes paced the team charting 22 points as he shot 6-of-22 from the field and 4-fo-14 from the arch. Lutes was perfect from the charity stripe going 6-of-6. He also led BSU with six rebounds and five assists.
  • DJ Anderson put up 7-of-7 free throws in his 15 points for second on the team.
  • Shane White and Kaylor Zimmerman each recorded 10 points. White also charted three steals and Zimmerman posted two.
  • The Beavers went 24-of-27 from the charity stripe to outshoot the Marauders.
  • BSU tied the game up five times but could not hold on at the end to pull off a victory.

U-Mary Highlights

  • Marquealis Edwards led the Marauders with 26 points in his 32 minutes of action. Edwards also led the team in rebounding with 11 boards, including 10 defensive boards.
  • Jaycob Velasco charted 18 points, Bryan Jefferson and Chris Mason each tallied 12 points and teammate Germain Decoste recorded 10 points to round double figure scoring.
  • The Marauders shot 53.3 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from the arch to outshoot the Beavers.
  • U-Mary charted 12 points off turnovers and added eight second-chance points.
