No. 4 SMSU defeats BSU 3-0 Saturday

BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University volleyball team fell to No. 4 Southwest Minnesota State University 3-0 (25-14, 25-6, 25-10) Saturday. The Beavers fall to 4-16 (2-9 NSIC) on the season, while the Mustangs improve to 16-3 (9-2 NSIC).

Jessica Yost led the Beavers with six kills, while freshman Kori Leist added three and three blocks.

Bemidji State just couldn’t keep up with Southwest Minnesota State’s attack as the Mustangs out-hit the Beavers, .436 to -.046. SMSU totaled 43 kills in the match and saw Abbey Thissen and Taylor Reiss tally 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

After Yost and Leist, junior Amanda Tronick added three kills followed by Hailey Kauling with two. Senior Ashley Kiecker led BSU with 12 assists, while Tronick, Yost, and Kayla DeJong each made six digs.

Bemidji State will play another home match on Tuesday, Oct. 20 when they host the University of Minnesota-Crookston before traveling to Upper Iowa and Winona State Friday and Saturday.
