Pelzer records double-double as Beavers fall to Augie, 73-48

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University women's basketball team fell to Augustana University, 73-48, Friday night in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contest. Junior Aimee Pelzer recorded the first double-double of her career with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Pelzer helped begin the first quarter in which the Beavers held an 11-7 lead entering the second. The guard totaled seven points in the opening period, kicking things off with two consecutive 3-pointers, the second coming off an offensive rebound for second-chance points. Sophomore Sierra Senske recorded the additional four points for Bemidji State in the first quarter.

The Beavers allowed just three shots to the Vikings to begin the game, coming two minutes apart after converting the initial basket with 6:15 in the quarter. Augustana attempted 20 shots, five from behind the arc, during the 10-minute span. The Beavers were able to hold the Vikings without a converted 3-point shot.

Bemidji State continued with the lead through seven minutes to open the second quarter. The Vikings, beginning a full-court press, took the lead with 3:08 in the second. The team’s leading scorer, Logan O’Farrell, hit a shot from long range set up by her sister, Presley O’Farrell, to take a 25-24 lead, the final lead of the night. The Beavers missed six field goals heading into halftime trailing, 33-27.

The Vikings used a 64.3 field goal percent in the third quarter to extend the lead to 18, 56-34, to finish the period. Senske added five points after halftime as Augustana continued to push the lead to a game-high 26 points, 71-45, with 2:49 in the game.

Senske led the Beavers in scoring with 15 points, followed by Pelzer. Pelzer’s 10 rebounds all came on the defensive side while she added three assists and one steal. BSU was outshot at 44 percent (27-62) to 27 percent (14-52) from the field.

Bemidji State hosts Wayne State College at 4 p.m. in BSU Gymnasium tomorrow to close out the NSIC home weekend.
