Beavers fall in second half battle at U-Mary, 75-66

BISMARCK, N.D. – The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team went head-to-head against University of Mary Friday night looking for a win to start its final regular season road series. The Beavers led at the half but the Marauders pulled away in the second half to win 75-66.

Bemidji State moves its record to 8-15 overall and 4-15 in league play with the loss, while the Marauders improve to 7-16 overall and 5-14 in conference action. The Beavers will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 14 as they end their final regular season road game at Minot State University.

Bemidji State Highlights

  • Shane White led the Beavers’ offense, scoring 12 points and added seven rebounds. White was 4-of-10 from the floor and dished out three assists.
  • Cody Risseeuw and DJ Anderson contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively to boost the Beavers.
  • The Beavers only committed six turnovers compared to the Marauders 11, while capitalizing for 14 points off turnovers.
  • Bemidji State ended the game shooting 35 percent from the floor and put up 32 points in the paint.

U-Mary Highlights

  • Coming off the bench to spearhead the Marauders offense was Jaycob Velasco with 22 points, shooting 9-of-14 from the floor and 4-of-7 beyond the arc.
  • Marquealis Edwards recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Germain Decoste rounded out double figure scoring with 10 points.
  • The Marauders 60 percent second half shooting pushed them over the Beavers for the win to earn their fifth in the NSIC.
  • U-Mary outrebounded the Beavers, pulling down 46 to BSU’s 34.
  • U-Mary shot 64 percent in the second half from beyond the arc after going the first half without a single made three-point field goal.
