Beavers earn 2-1 win to open 2015 campaign

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Chet Anderson Stadium) -- Junior forward Sarah Stram netted her first goal of 2015 in the 53rd minute Thursday evening to lift the Bemidji State University soccer team to a 2-1 victory over University of Minnesota Crookston and open the 2015 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season at Chet Anderson Stadium.

Miranda Famestad got the scoring started with a header on a corner kick off the foot of Abigail Nyquist in the 33rd minute.

Less than four minutes later, Minnesota Crookston came charging back finding the back of the net on a corner kick of thier own.

Tied 1-1 to open the second half, BSU and Stram took advantage of a penalty kick opportunity to take the lead for good.

Anna Fobbe turned aside one UMC shot on goal to earn her a victory in the freshman's collegiate debut.

BSU, which improved to 1-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in NSIC play, now turns its focus outside league play and will travel to Marquette, Mich. to battle Northern Michigan University at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
