BSU football rushes for school record 480 yards en route to 52-3 win over U-Mary

BISMARCK, N.D. – The Bemidji State University football team rushed for a school record 480 yards and totaled over 650 team yards en route to a 52-3 win over University of Mary. With the win, the Beavers (4-1) begin Northern Sun Intercollegiate North Division play 1-0 while the Marauders fall to 0-4 (0-1 NSIC North).

Senior Gena Adams led the Beavers rushing attack with a career-high 179 yards and two touchdowns while junior Michael Washington compiled 82 yards and three touchdowns. Senior quarterback Jordan Hein added 101 yards on the ground with a TD, while also passing for 174 yards and two touchdowns.

Adams began the scoring in the first quarter with an 86-yard touchdown run, the longest of his career, just seven minutes into the quarter. The Beavers wouldn’t score again until the second quarter when Hein completed a 35-yard pass to Vince Dinkel to push the Beavers’ lead to 12-0. BSU scored again in right before the half off of a 32-yard pass from Hein to Juwaan Richard with just 11 second remaining.

The Beavers came out of the break looking to extend their lead and scored 24 points in just the third quarter to extend the lead to 46-0. After another Beaver touchdown to begin the fourth quarter, BSU’s eighth of the day, the Marauders finally got on the scoreboard after a field goal with 5:47 left to play.

The Beavers’ ‘Gang Green’ defense held the Marauders offense to just 138 total yards and two turnovers. U-Mary hadn’t produced an offensive drive of more than 25 yards until their only scoring drive of the game

Bemdiji State ends its two-game road trip and returns home to face Northern State University, Oct. 8. The Beavers and Wolves will kick-off at 1 p.m. from Chet Anderson Stadium.
