Beavers fall to No. 4 Golden Bears

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University volleyball team fell to No. 4 Concordia University-St. Paul 3-0 (18-25, 13-25, 23-25) Friday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. The Beavers (5-16, 2-11 NSIC) were led by sophomore Anna Averkamp who totaled eight kills in the match.

The Beavers totaled 26 kills in the match compared to 45 by the Golden Bears (18-4, 12-1 NSIC). Bemidji State hit at a .110 hitting efficiency (26-16-91) while CSP hit at a .283 clip (45-15-106). The Beavers played well on the defensive side of the ball picking up 44 digs as a team falling short of CSP by one. BSU did win the net battle and out-blocked CSP, 9-6 including a match high four from senior Maddie Filipiak (3s-1a).

Junior Julie Touchett followed Averkamp with five kills while Mary Campbell, Greta Paszek and Jessica Reega each added three. Campbell led the Beavers by hitting at a .500 clip from the setting position as well as assisting on 20 kills and adding 10 digs defensively to record the double-double.

Campbell led the team in digs while juniors Emma Hallmann and Kelli Auer followed closely with nine each. Touchett recorded three blocks (0s-3a) at the net to follow Filipiak while Campbell (1s-1a), Paszek (0s-2a) and Reega (1s-1a) each added two.

The Beavers continue their weekend at home and host Minnesota State University, Mankato tomorrow at the BSU Gymnasium. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
