BSU Volleyball falls to Upper Iowa, 3-1

FAYETTE, Iowa – The Bemidji State University volleyball team fell to Upper Iowa University 3-1 (11-25, 25-19, 20-25, 19-25) Friday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. The Beavers (5-18, 2-13 NSIC) were led by sophomore Anna Averkamp who recorded 13 kills in the match for her highest total since Sept. 8.

The Beavers won their first set since Sept. 28 with a 25-19 victory in set two.

The Beavers totaled 36 kills in the match but had 23 attack errors to hit just .086 as a team. The Peacocks totaled 57 kills with only 16 errors to hit at a high .247 clip. The Beavers trailed the Peacocks by just two digs at 79-81 defensively while each team totaled four team blocks.

Senior Maddie Filipiak followed Averkamp with 10 kills for her highest total since Sept. 15 while Julie Touchett and Greta Paszek followed with six and four kills, respectively. Filipiak led the Beavers by hitting at a .345 clip after recording 10 kills on 29 attacks with no errors. Freshman Mary Campbell set the ball for BSU and earned 28 assists.

On defense, the Beavers were paced by junior Emma Hallmann who totaled 22 digs, her second-highest tally of the season, while Becka Cronin, Kelli Auer and Mary Campbell recorded 13, 12 and 10, respectively.

Bemidji State continues play on the road and will play at Winona State University tomorrow at 4 p.m.
