Beaver volleyball suffers 3-0 loss at Augustana

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Bemidji State University volleyball team fell to Augustana College (S.D.) 3-0 (20-25, 21-25, 22-25) Friday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action. The Beavers (5-14, 2-9 NSIC) were led by junior Julie Touchett and sophomore Anna Averkamp who each totaled nine kills in the match.

The Beavers totaled 37 kills in the match and hit .200 (37-14-115) as a team but had no answer for one of the league’s top hitter in Courtney Place. Place led the match with 21 of the team’s 43 kills and hit at a .415 clip to pace the Vikings.

The Beavers’ defense totaled 55 digs in the match and out-blocked the Vikings 6-2 including a match-high four (0s-4a) from Touchett. Junior Kelli Auer led the Beavers’ backcourt with 12 digs while Emma Hallmann and Haley Stolt each recorded 11.

Senior Maddie Filipiak followed Touchett and Averkamp with eight kills and hit at a .286 clip while freshman Greta Paszek followed with seven. Freshman Mary Campbell set the ball for BSU’s attack and totaled 32 assists while also picking up seven digs on the defensive side.

The Beavers will play at University of Minnesota Crookston Tuesday, Oct. 12 in their next action before hosting Concordia University-St. Paul and Minnesota State University, Mankato, Oct. 12-13.
