BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University volleyball team earned its first victory in 10 matches Friday night after defeating Minot State University 3-1 (25-19, 18-25, 25-22, 25-14) in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action. The Beavers (4-11, 1-6 NSIC) earned their first league victory after senior Julie Touchett led the team with 14 kills and senior Emma Hallmann recorded a career-high 31 digs defensively.

For its first win since Sept. 7, Bemidji State earned a 25-19 victory in set one against Minot State. However, the MiSU bounced back with a 25-18 win in set two to even the match. Minot State looked to get the better of the better of the Beavers in set three and led 21-19 late in the set but the Beavers rallied to tie the score at 22-22 and later won the set 25-22 for the 2-1 lead. The Beavers were then back to dominance in the fourth set and came out on top 25-14.

Bemidji State hit .188 as a team and out-hit Minot State 52-38 in kills and earned 72 kills compared to just 48 from Minot State.

Touchett paced the Beavers with 14 kills, three shy from tying a career-high and hit a match-high .423 in 26 attacks. Sophomore Haley Stolt followed with 11 kills and hit .143 while junior Anna Averkamp added 10 kills. Redshirt freshman coordinated the Beavers' attack and earned 43 assists and contributed 11 digs defensively for the double-double.

Bemidji State also dominated on the serve and totaled 10 aces including four from Hallmann and senior Kelli Auer, new career-bests.

Hallmann led the Beavers defense with the career effort in digs while sophomore Taylor Kot added 10. Junior Randi Johnson led the Beavers with four blocks (3s-1a) while Stolt followed with two (2s-0a).

The Beavers are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host University of Mary at 1 p.m.
