MINOT, N.D. (Herb Parker Stadium) -- Sophomore running back Jalen Frye helped Bemidji State University explode to a 66-30 win Saturday afternoon in the Beaver Bash against Minot State University. Frye ran for 316 yards, three shy of tying the program single-game record, while the "Gang Green" defense allowed just three points in the second half at Minot, N.D.

Minot State gave Bemidji State an early hole to dig out of while scoring touchdowns through the air and on a blocked punt to go ahead, 13-0, early in the first quarter. BSU bounced back with back-to-back touchdowns of its own, a 28-yard reception by junior wide receiver Malik Williams and the longest run of the day by Frye with a 68-yard touchdown, to take its first lead of the game.

BSU held on to a one-point lead at halftime, 28-27, before it scored 38 points in the second half. On nine second-half possessions Bemidji State scored touchdowns on five with a field goal to add. On the other side of the field, the “Gang Green” defense held Minot State to three second-half points and forced three turnovers and five punts over the final 30 minutes of play.

Frye scored another long touchdown to begin the scoring explosion with a 47-yard scamper early in the third quarter. Junior quarterback Emmett Enright threw for two of his five passing touchdowns in the second half, finding senior wide receiver Jacob Anderson, Anderson’s second touchdown grab of the game, before a 74-yard bomb to sophomore wide receiver Brendan Beaulieu in the fourth quarter.

Senior defensive back Michael Junker took one of his two interceptions back 59 yards for a touchdown late in the game while senior full back Matt Gross punched in a five-yard score to wrap up scoring on the 66-30 route of Minot State.

Frye ran for 208 yards in the first half alone, tying his career high set last week at Minnesota State University Moorhead, and finished the game averaging 11.3 yards per carry. Enright threw for 325 yards and five touchdowns on 14 completions, finding Anderson for 66 yards on four throws and Beaulieu for 123 yards on three.

Senior defensive lineman Alex Hoffman led the defense with 11 tackles while Junker recorded two interceptions to finish his career with 17. His eight interceptions this season ties BSU great Rich Schwartz for the most ever in a season by a Beaver. Junker finishes the season as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference’s leader in interceptions, with second place trailing by three picks.

The Beavers finish the season 8-3 overall and 6-1 in the NSIC North Division, which helped the senior class reach the most wins for the program over a four-season span with 32.
