Box Score MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Ridder Arena) -- Junior goaltender Kerigan Dowhy turned aside 39 of the 42 shots she faced in the Bemidji State University women's hockey team's 3-0 loss at top-ranked University of Minnesota Saturday.
Outshot 42-15 in the game, Dowhy single-handedly allowed the Beavers to keep the Golden Gophers within reach deep into the third period. Not only did she record 39 saves, she backstopped a BSU penalty-kill unit that held a potent Minnesota power-play unit without a goal in three opportunities.
Minnesota got on the board at the 7:00 mark of the first period when Sarah Potomak netted her third goal of the series with help from Grace Zumwinkle and Madeline Wethington.
The Gophers took the 1-0 lead into the second period. Despite surrendering a power-play opportunity and getting outshot 12-8 in the frame, Dowhy and the Beavers skated into the third period within a goal of the nation's top team, 1-0.
Amy Potomak doubled the Minnesota lead at the 1:49 mark of the third period before Taylor Heise beat Dowhy at the 15:22 mark of the third period.
The BSU defense and penalty-kill unit held Minnesota in check for the remainder of the game, snuffing out a pair of penalties, including a five-minute major, late.
Bemidji State, now 3-8-1 overall and 2-6-0-0 in WCHA play, will travel to Mankato, Minn. Nov. 22-23 for a two-game series at Minnesota State University, Mankato. The series will get underway at 2:07 p.m. Friday with Saturday’s series finale slated for a 2:07 p.m. opening faceoff from the Mankato Civic Center.
