WINONA, Minn. – The Bemidji State University volleyball team fell in the first match of its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference road trip of the season Friday night after falling to Winona State University, 3-1 (19-25,13-25, 25-19, 23-25). Freshman Samiya Jami led the Beavers after she recorded a career-high 12 kills and also hit .333.

The Beavers fought hard but were out-matched by the Warriors in all offensive categories including kills (60-44), hitting percentage (.216-.177) and aces (7-3) as well as team blocks (10-8).

Three Beavers totaled double-digits in kills including Jami while sophomore Haley Stolt followed with 11 kills and senior Julie Touchett added 10. Redshirt freshman Maddie Mackinac led the attack and earned 38 assists.

Defensively, the Beavers were led by senior Emma Hallmann who totaled 17 digs while Mackinac added 10 for the double-double. Junior Randi Johnson led the Beavers with five blocks (1s-4a) while Touchett and Stolt each added three.

Bemidji State returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Upper Iowa University to take on the No. 23 Peacocks at 2 p.m.
