Box Score

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Chet Anderson Stadium) -- Sophomore quarterback Brandon Alt's record-breaking day led the way for (RV) Bemidji State University football during a 48-14 win over Southwest Minnesota State University Saturday afternoon at Chet Anderson Stadium. Alt tossed six touchdown passes, setting the BSU single-season record with 34, to help the Beavers improve to 7-2 overall.

Alt entered the game with 28 passing touchdowns and secured the program's single-season record before halftime. He found four different receivers on touchdown throws in the first half, including the record-breaking score to senior wide receiver Malik Williams to take a 27-7 lead at halftime. The throw put Alt ahead of the previous record holder and current BSU assistant coach Jordan Hein (2016). Alt finished the day 21-of-30 passing for 306 yards with six touchdowns, tying the BSU single-game record for the second straight week.

The “Gang Green” defense set a season-high with five sacks, led by freshman linebacker Ty Guden with 1.5. The Beavers also recorded 10 tackles for a loss of 69 yards, led by junior edge rusher Zollie Kaplan. Sophomore linebacker Spencer Wehr led the unit with eight tackles, including seven solo.

Bemidji State began the game with possession and came away with touchdowns on its first four drives. The Beavers put together 12 plays for 75 yards on the opening possession and scored as Alt found senior wide receiver Brendan Beaulieu in the corner of the end zone on a 4th and 20 from the SMSU 25-yardline.

On the second drive of the day, the Beavers again went 75 yards in 10 plays, scoring on a five-yard pass from Alt to junior tight end Andrew Manuele for a 14-0 lead. SMSU bounced back to cut into the BSU lead after a 14-play drive that led into the second quarter. Alt's record-tying touchdown pass came seven plays later as he found junior wide receiver Dhel Duncan-Busby near the edge of the end zone from 16 yards out, extending its lead to 20-7.

Junior defensive tackle Sammy Byrd ended SMSU's next drive early with a sack and loss of eight yards to force a punt. On the next play, Alt connected with Williams on a 33-yard score for Alt's 32nd passing touchdown this season and fourth of the day. Williams drew closer to the BSU single-season receiving touchdown record with the catch, marking his 13th score and one shy of the program record, giving the Beavers a 27-7 lead at halftime.

BSU came out of the half hot again, scoring on its first three possessions to start the third quarter. Alt completed three passes on a four-play drive, finding junior wide receiver Mike Wandmaker for 37 yards before adding a second touchdown connection to Beaulieu from 18 yards out for a 34-7 lead.

Sophomore running back Sage Booker set up a short touchdown run on the next drive with a 66-yard run. He totaled 72 rushing yards on the drive as fellow sophomore back Makaio Harn punched in a four-yard touchdown for a 41-7 lead. Alt's sixth and final touchdown pass of the day came late in the third quarter as he found freshman wide receiver Jake Hill from 19 yards out. Hill made his first career reception, dodged a defender and ran in 13 yards for BSU's final score of the day, 48-7.

Williams and Beaulieu each caught five passes, while Williams totaled 85 yards and one score and Beaulieu recorded 80 yards and two touchdowns. Williams moved into ninth place in single-season receiving yards at BSU with 824.
