Averkamp powers Beavers with 16 kills in loss at Minnesota State

MANKATO, Minn. – Bemidji State University volleyball senior Anna Averkamp totaled 16 kills and hit .286 to lead the BSU volleyball team in a three-set loss (25-16, 25-19, 25-21) at Minnesota State University, Mankato Saturday afternoon.

Averkamp was two kills shy of tying a career mark after she finished with 16 kills in 35 attacks and just six errors. The Beavers totaled 33 kills as a team in the match as sophomores Maddi Siedenburg and Rilee Michaelson followed Averkamp with four kills each. The Beavers hit .046 as a team with 33 kills, 108 attacks and 28 errors while the Mavericks hit .207 with 33 kills, 92 attacks and just 14 errors as a team. 

Minnesota State was led by Dana Schindler and Ellie Danielson who each totaled eight kills while Kiya Durant followed with seven. Danielson paced the Mavericks by hitting .467 while Schindler hit .412 and Durant hit .364.

Bemidji State's attack was coordinated by freshman Emily Wade who totaled 27 assists, her highest assist total since Sept. 21. Wade also recorded two kills on the attack and eight digs on defense.

BSU's defense was led by sophomore Lauren Justesen who totaled 14 digs followed by Wade (8) and junior Meeghen Dahlager with six. Michaelson and sophomore Rylie Bjerklie led the Beavers at the net by totaling two blocks each. 

Bemidji State falls to 0-17 (0-9 NSIC) on the season and returns home next weekend to host (RV) Northern State University and Minnesota State University, Moorhead, Oct. 15-16.
