Box Score HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Bemidji State University men's hockey team fell 5-2 Saturday night to Michigan Technological University as the Huskies completed the Central Collegiate Hockey Association series sweep. With the win, the Huskies overtook the Beavers for second in the CCHA standings.
Michigan Tech started the scoring just 5:24 into the opening period when Alec Broetzman scored his fourth goal of the season. The Beavers responded fairly quickly however, when Lukas Sillinger netted his third goal of the series, 12th of the season, just 2:38 later. The Huskies would add another goal before the period's end when Logan Ganie scored his second of the season with just 3:26 left in the period.
The Huskies would enter the first intermission with the one-goal lead but just 47 seconds into the second period, Jere Vaisanen evened the game with his sixth goal of the season while on a Bemidji State power play. Both teams would enter the second intermission locked in the 2-2 tie with the crucial third period looming.
The third period would be all Michigan Tech as the Huskies would score three goals during the final 20 minutes of play. Broetzman opened the period with his second goal of the game just 54 seconds after puck drop. He was followed by Tommy Parrottino with his fourth goal at 5:30 of the period while Tyrell Buckley added an empty-net goal with 2:04 remaining to seal the 5-2 victory.
Bemidji State returns home next weekend and will attempt to snap its five-game losing streak against Northern Michigan University at Sanford Center. Game one against the Wildcats is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 4 at 7:07 p.m., followed by game two Saturday at 6:07 p.m.
