Bianco, Kone, Thompson combined for 54 points in 77-71 loss to WSC

BEMIDJI, Minn. (BSU Gymnasium) -- The Bemidji State University men's basketball trio of Travis Bianco, Mohamed Kone and Derek Thompson combined to score 54 points Saturday night at BSU Gymnasium as part of a 77-71 loss to Wayne State College. The Beavers fall to 6-13 overall and 3-12 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference as the Wildcats improve to 11-8 and 8-5 in the NSIC.

Bianco led all Beavers with 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting, adding six rebounds and three 3-pointers. Thompson recorded his 14th career double-double and third of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds while Kone scored 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting with a team-high five assists.

Bemidji State held the lead for nearly 14 minutes in the first half before Wayne State went on a 12-4 run to tie the game, 37-37, at halftime.

The Wildcats continued its run with six straight points to open the second half as they would lead the rest of the night. Following a game-high lead of 13 points for WSC, 67-54, BSU went on an 11-2 run over a four minute span to cut the deficit to just four points. A driving layup by Kone kept the deficit at four points with 1:29 in the game before BSU missed four straight 3-pointers to end the game.

With the start Saturday, Thompson broke the program's all-time record for games started with 108, surpassing Bryce Tesdahl (2008-12) and Logan Bader (2016-20).

Bemidji State returns to BSU Gymnasium for its final full weekend, hosting Minot State University Feb. 4 and the University of Mary Feb. 5 at BSU Gymnasium.
