Allyson Smith scored twice in the first half to lead the Bemidji State University Women's Soccer team to a 3-0 victory at Southwest Minnesota State University Friday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.
Smith scored in the 18
th minute to give the Beavers (8-2-4, 7-1-3 NSIC) the early one-goal lead and then scored nine minutes later to put the Beavers up 2-0.
The Mustangs (1-6-7, 1-6-4 NSIC) never recovered and after a goal by
Maria Stocke in the 68
th minute, the Beavers claimed the 3-0 victory.
For Smith, it was her fourth and fifth goals of the season and now leads Bemidji State in goals and is tied for the team lead in points (11). For Stocke, it was her first goal of the season and second career goal.
Senior
Alyssa Stumbaugh held the Mustangs off the scoreboard for her sixth shutout of the season and denied SMSU on all six of its shots on goal in the game. She also earned the primary assist on Smith's first tally for her first career assist and became the first BSU goalkeeper to record a primary assist since Sonja Barr in 2012.
Bemidji State out-shot the Mustangs 13-12 in the game including 9-6 in shots on goal. Each team earned four corner kicks in the game.
The Beavers now travel to University of Sioux Falls Sunday, Oct. 16 to take on the Cougars.
