MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Bemidji State University Men's Hockey team earned a series split at Northern Michigan University Saturday night with a 4-1 victory in Central Collegiate Hockey Association play. The Beavers (5-3-2, 3-1-2 CCHA) were led by defensemen
Will Magnuson and
Will Zmolek who scored the first two goals for the Beavers.
The Beavers earned three points in the CCHA standings and are now tied for first with 11 points.
Zmolek finished the game with two points after recording a goal and assist while
Alexander Lundman also added a goal and an assist.
Bemidji State opened the game when sophomore
Will Magnuson scored the first goal of his career 8:24 into the first period. The Beavers didn't hold the lead for long as NMU's Joey Larson netted the equalizer just 4:33 later.
The teams would carry the tie score into the third period after a scoreless second period, but just 30 seconds into the final frame, senior
Will Zmolek scored his first goal of the season to put the Beavers up one. BSU used the early goal to carry its play in the third period and went on to score the next two goals to earn the 4-1 victory. Lundman made it 3-1 at 12:46 of the period and then sophomore
Jere Vaisanen capped off the scoring with a goal with 3:54 to play.
Sophomore
Mattias Sholl made is second consecutive start in net and stopped 25-of-26 shots including 17 in the final two periods to earn his third victory of the season.
Bemidji State will now take a break from play and have a bye week next weekend before facing University of North Dakota for a home-and-home series beginning Nov. 25 at Sanford Center.
