BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Soccer 2022 season officially ended Sunday afternoon after Ferris State University downed the Beavers 2-0 in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament at Chet Anderson Stadium.
The Beavers (16-3-6) were bested by the Bulldogs (12-5-7) after they scored two second-half goals just 3:13 apart. With the win, FSU advances to the Semifinal Round of the NCAA Tournament and will travel to Seattle, Wash., Dec. 1-3.
2022 will go down as the most successful year for the BSU Women's Soccer program as the Beavers were NCAA Central Region Champions for the first time in program history.
Bemidji State and Ferris State played to a 0-0 draw through the first 45 minutes despite FSU holding a 10-2 shot advantage over the Beavers.
The Beavers controlled the ball in its offensive half for most of the second half but the Bulldogs took advantage of a corner kick and opened the scoring in the 54
th minute when Payton Price headed in the set-piece opportunity. Not long after, Nikki May from FSU dribbled the ball past a couple of defenders and beat goaltender
Alyssa Stumbaugh to the far post to go up 2-0 in the 57
th minute.
Ferris State anchored the defense from then on and with Bemidji State pressuring, FSU's goaltender Darya Mosallaei held the Beavers off the scoreboard to earn the shutout and send the Bulldogs to the final four.
BSU out-shot the Bulldogs 12-6 in the second half but couldn't crack through the Bulldogs' defense. Ferris State finished the game with a 16-14 shot advantage and 7-4 advantage of shots on goal.
The Beavers finish the 2022 campaign with a 16-3-6 record and the third most wins in program history.
