Beaver volleyball ends the 2022 season in four-set loss to NSU

BSU finish with 4-24 record

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University volleyball team ended its 2022 season with a four-set loss (25-23, 22-25, 25-13, 25-10) to Northern State University in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play, Saturday evening. The Beavers (4-24, 3-17 NSIC) recorded 44 kills in the match with a quarter coming from junior Hallie Mertz (11).

With the last home game of the season the BSU seniors were recognized before the match. Ashley East, Rylie Pompa, Annie Hopp and Meeghen Dahlager were all able to finish their career at the BSU Gymnasium. East tied for second on the team with 10 kills, Dahlager finished with five and Pompa with four. Hopp led the team with 16 digs on the night and Dahlager and Pompa finished with two and one blocks, respectively.

The first two sets were neck and neck as the Beavers and the Wolves (18-10, 13-7 NSIC) traded points back and forth and traded off those sets with NSU taking the first and BSU taking set two. After that the Beavers looked to have lost their steam losing the next two sets by double digits.

Joining Mertz and East with double digits was junior Lauren Sitter who tallied 10 in the four-set match. Assisting in the points were freshman Hally Holker and Emily Wade who racked up 21 and 18 assists, respectively. Mertz and Wade also got it done off the serve recording the team's three aces. Mertz finished with two and Wade one.

On defense, rounding out the top three for digs were Mertz and Wade who totaled nine and seven, respectively. At the net the Beavers were able to stop six NSU attacks with Rylie Bjerklie finishing the night with four assisted blocks. Tiara Diamond was the only Beaver to record a solo block as she did in the third set.

With the conclusion of the match tonight the Beavers 2022 season comes to an end with a final record of 4-24, 3-17 NSIC.
