No. 2 Wisconsin completes series sweep with 4-1 victory Saturday afternoon

Hogenson makes 38 saves for the BSU Women’s Hockey team

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University junior goaltender Hannah Hogenson made 38 saves for the Bemidji State University Women's Hockey team but the Beavers fell to No. 2 University of Wisconsin 4-1 in their Western Collegiate Hockey Association series finale Saturday afternoon at Sanford Center.

The Beavers (4-15-1, 1-13-0 WCHA) and Badgers (13-2-1, 10-1-1 WCHA) played to a scoreless first period but Wisconsin broke the scoreless tie 57 seconds into the second period when Vivian Jungels scored her fourth goal of the season.

The Badgers would head into the second intermission with the one-goal lead but 48 seconds into the third, Britta Curl put the Badgers up two with her 10th goal of the season and fourth goal of the series. Wisconsin played most of the final period with the two-goal lead but the Beavers finally broke through the Badgers' defense when Reece Hunt scored a power-play goal with 5:31 to play and breathe life into the Beavers.

However, just 2:20 later, Kirsten Simms ended any hope of a BSU comeback by scoring her seventh goal of the season with just 3:11 remaining. The Badgers would add an empty-net goal with 35 seconds left to seal the 4-1 victory.

Hogenson made 38 saves on 41 shots for the Beavers while BSU was out-shot 42-10 in the game.

Bemidji State finished the game 1-for-2 while on the power play while its penalty kill denied the Badgers on all three of their power-play attempts.

Bemidji State will now look to readjust and have next weekend off from competition before beginning a four-game road trip at University of St. Thomas Dec. 16-17 and University of Minnesota Duluth, Jan. 13-14.
